People have been informed they will be able to keep their teeth white if they eat lots of vegetables, in information that could be included in dental marketing campaigns.
Dr Aamer and Lesley Reynolds Khan said broccoli, carrots and cauliflower are particularly good choices for those wishing to maintain a good colour, reports the Daily Express.
They were responding to a query from a reader who has recently had their teeth whitened and wanted to know how to keep them looking sparkling.
Vegetables help to remove plaque in the mouth so are good for oral health, they said.
It was noted: “The foods that can damage your new, gleaming smile are the same ones that very likely caused the discolouration in the first place: soy sauce, red wine, blueberries, tea, coffee and fizzy drinks.”
Karen Coates, dental advisor at the British Dental Health Federation, recently recommended individuals steer clear of hard sweets and cola to maintain the whiteness of their teeth.
