NHS Cumbria has written to 17,000 local people urging them to come forward to take newly created dental places in the county.
It comes as a result of a £1.5 million funding boost announced by the Department of Health earlier in the year that was designed to improve access to NHS dentists in the area.
Anyone wishing to sign up to an NHS dentist in Cumbria is asked to act in the next couple of weeks in order to ensure they get a spot.
NHS Cumbria’s dental public health consultant Eric Rooney stated it is “great news” so many places have been created as a result of the government’s funding.
“It is important though if you’ve been sent a letter offering you a choice of NHS dentists that you don’t wait until you’re in dental pain to contact them,” he noted.
Earlier this month, Integrated Dental Holdings revealed it is planning to extend its range to more than 1,000 practices in the coming years.
