Dental marketing campaigns may need to highlight the dangers and disadvantages of teeth whitening after it was revealed the cosmetic dentistry procedure is more popular than ever.
According to cosmetic dentist Dr Maurice Johannes, from The Harley Street Smile Clinic, the continuing popularity of teeth whitening is due to the fact that individuals are a lot more conscious of their appearance in the 21st century than they were in the past.
It was noted by the industry expert that as a result of this, people want to make sure they look at their best and one of the ways in which they can do this is to have their teeth whitened.
“A more aesthetically pleasing smile can be achieved by having your teeth whitened, so it has become more popular than ever as it is a quick and easy non-invasive treatment to have carried out,” he said.
Dr Johannes from The Harley Street Smile Clinic also pointed out the cost of the procedure has come down over the course of the last few years which means it is now “affordable” for a lot more people than it used to be.
“I think people want to have a perfect smile, but they don’t want it to look fake or too white, they want it to look natural,” he said, explaining most of the individuals who have the procedure are aiming to have their teeth look as if they were born like that.
It was also noted by the expert how the Hollywood Smile has dropped in popularity as it is “very white and very perfect”, which may be off-putting to some people.
