New research has indicated the health benefits of drinking green tea may include that it can help individuals affected by bad breath to eliminate the problem.
According to a study published in the journal Archives of Oral Biology, antioxidants in the tea, called polyphenols, destroy compounds in the mouth that can lead to halitosis.
But this is not the only health benefit of green tea found by the scientists, as they noted it could also reduce the chances of contracting oral cancer, reports the Daily Mail.
Those involved in the study called for more research to be carried out into the advantages of drinking green tea in order to prove the results further.
“Oral cavity, oxidative stress and inflammation consequent to cigarettes’ deleterious compounds may be reduced in the presence of green tea polyphenols,” they wrote in the report.
Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, previously told the news provider that drinking more fluids could help to reduce bad breath.
