Restaurant chain supports oral health with milk offer

The oral health of the UK’s children is by no means perfect, and dentists are constantly striving to improve it through education, dental marketing and oral healthcare. Now, one restaurant chain has joined the battle, offering a unique deal throughout National Smile Month to help strengthen children’s teeth.

Families that eat at giraffe restaurants across the UK will be able to get a free glass of milk with each kids meal that is purchased during National Smile Month. This deal can be accessed at any of giraffe’s 53 locations.

With around a quarter of all UK five-year-olds suffering from tooth decay, action needs to be taken to make people more aware of how to keep their children’s teeth healthy. While giraffe’s offer may not completely solve the problem, it will hopefully go a long way towards encouraging families to think about the issue.

Juliette Joffe, co-founder of giraffe restaurants, said: “The campaign is a really fun and interesting way of teaching kids about dental health, something which is important to us.” The company is supporting National Smile Month, the British Dental Health Foundation’s Campaign running from May 19th to June 19th.

“We are delighted to be part of National Smile Month this year, supporting the British Dental Health Foundation,” Ms Joffe added. The campaign is promoting three key messages: brush your teeth for two minutes twice a day using a fluoride toothpaste, cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks and visit the dentist regularly.

Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the BDHF, said: “I am thrilled to see giraffe restaurants supporting National Smile Month. Getting children involved and learning about their oral health is key to the campaign’s success. With giraffe’s support, together we can help to educate more children and hopefully reduce levels of tooth decay now and in future generations.”

Hopefully, the impact of National Smile Month will cause more people to visit their dentist and take better care of their oral health, and campaigns like giraffe’s will go a long way towards this goal.
