Figures released by the Scottish government have shown that a record number of people in the nation are registered to an NHS dentist.
According to the statistics, a total of 3,053,394 adults and 893,563 children are now signed up, which is an extra 1.36 million individuals in the last four and a half years.
Public health minister Michael Matheson described the news as “fantastic” and pointed out that more people are able to head to a dentist as record numbers of practitioners are operating in the country.
He continued: “We will expect to see improvements in the oral health of the nation and these figures show that we are already seeing significant leaps forward in children’s dental health.”
Andrew Lamb, director of the British Dental Association in Scotland, recently told the Scotsman some individuals north of the border are put off from heading to the dentist as they believe it will be expensive.
