Individuals have been advised of the benefits of heading for a dental check-up in the days leading up to Christmas.
According to chief executive of the British Dental Health Federation (BDHF) Dr Nigel Carter, this is especially recommended to those who have not been to the dentist for a while, as they will be able to have any issues dealt with ahead of the festive period.
He said; “The last thing you want is that cavity in your back tooth that you are aware of and have been putting off getting sorted out playing you up on Christmas day and spoiling your Christmas.”
Dr Carter added individuals should try to cut down on the amount of sugary foods and drinks they consume at this time of year and consider using sugar-free gum to keep their teeth clean between meals.
The BDHF chief executive recently noted teeth come under attack from acid more at Christmas as people eat and drink more than usual.
