Dentist Sir John Beresford MP is to launch a major new oral health campaign with a speech to parliament later in the month.
National Smile Month is set to run from May 20th and will be announced in parliament next Tuesday (May 15th) with addresses from president of the British Dental Health Foundation John Siebert and the organisation’s chief executive Dr Nigel Carter.
“Getting people to talk and think about their teeth and dental habits is vital to our goal of improving the state of oral health not only in the UK but worldwide,” said Dr Carter, who added the impact of poor oral hygiene is often underestimated.
Listerine, Oral-B, Wrigley and Steradent are among the main sponsors of this year’s National Smile Month, while Bupa, Dencover, Denplan and Argos are also involved.
Mike Croft has composed a new song – Healthy Teeth – to mark the event and promote the importance of oral health to youngsters.
