Part of a rotten tooth that once belonged to John Lennon has been used to help raise awareness of mouth cancer.
The molar was given to the Beatle’s former housekeeper in the 60s and was sold last year to a Canadian dentist for £19,500.
It has since been ground down into three metal dog tag necklaces, one of which is touring practices across the UK.
In honour of Mouth Cancer Action Month, experts decided to display parts of the famous molar as a creative alternative to dental posters.
Dentist Claire Lord, whose practice in Chorley showcased the necklace, said: “Having the tooth was a bit of fun and it made the very serious subject of mouth cancer more approachable and less scary.”
The expert explained how mouth cancer is “very easy to spot” provided people know what they are looking for, with the disease easier to treat if it is spotted early.
