Free oral health screenings offered

Dental patients in west Devon are being given the chance to have a free oral health screening as part of a drive to raise awareness of mouth cancer.
According to a report by the Okehampton Times, Chagford Dental Practice will be open to the public on November 16th and people who are not even registered with the dentists at the location can go along and get checked out for no cost.
The move comes as part of Mouth Cancer Action month, which is being run by the British Dental Health Federation in a bid to improve awareness of the potentially deadly disease.
Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the body, recently stated the biggest risk factors for developing mouth cancer are smoking and drinking too much.
He suggested that when people combine these two activities, they could be increasing their chances of having mouth cancer in the future by as much as 30 per cent.
