Embrace technology in your dental practice

It is safe to say that technology has developed in leaps and bounds in the last few years with the rise of the smartphone, the tablet PC and mobile broadband. Now, most people carry technology around in their pockets that would have required a large computer tower just a few years ago.

Businesses that have not caught up with this technology are beginning to fall by the wayside. While dentists will always be in demand, this does not mean you can just ignore the trend towards smart devices. In fact, your practice can take advantage of them by investing in online marketing materials.

One of the simplest ways you can utilise technology in marketing your dental practice is to send out an ezine. This is as simple as sending out a newsletter, only without having to worry about printing and distributing them. Simply email them out to all the patients on your contact list.

The simplicity of this means that you can use ezines far more regularly than you would be able to send out a newsletter. While it is generally not a good idea to bombard your patients with information, as they will quickly tire of the constant emails and begin deleting them without reading, it is a good way to keep them informed of changes to your practice.

It is worth thinking of other things you could put in an ezine that would make patients want to read it. For example, you could send your patients regular oral health tips, or guides to the dental procedures you offer.

Alternatively, you could create a smartphone application for your practice. This can work just like an ezine if you want it to, albeit one that is more interactive and therefore more appealing to many of your patients. However, there are a great deal of other uses.

The interactive nature of an app means that it could be used for booking appointments, saving you time at reception. You could upload your availability to the app, along with that of your other staff, and patients could choose from the free appointment slots easily.

You can store information there as well. For example, you could have a section of the app for testemonials. Users could see whenever a new testimonial is added, so they can be kept aware of how your practice is being received.

A dental app can also be used to spread news about your dental practice over social media. An example that many companies use is to advertise a prize draw, with the catch being that participants can gain extra entries by sharing your practice’s site on social media networks.

Apps are so easy to use that many patients prefer them to phoning up or visiting in order to book an appointment. This means that they are likely to visit your practice more often, as it will no longer be a hassle to get in touch with you. By utilising technology, you can encourage your patients to have better oral health by visiting the dentist more frequently, which in turn will be good for your practice.

Smartphones and tablets are certainly not going away anytime soon. You can really benefit from embracing this technology, as its convenience, accessibility and interactivity make it more appealing than traditional marketing. It is one of the best ways to attract more patients to your practice.
