Dentists warn breakfast is unhealthiest meal of the day

Breakfast is becoming the most unhealthy meal of the day in terms of oral health, according to the British Dental Health Foundation.
Research group Which? has found 12 out of the UK’s top 14 cereals contain a worrying amount of sugar, while studies conducted by the University of Glasgow showed individuals do not realise how much sugar is in their morning fruit juice.
Chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation stated tooth decay is a growing problem in the UK and it is important acid erosion does not follow suit.
“Figures suggest not enough adults or children are keeping to basic rules of oral hygiene, a practice that can help to reduce and even keep dental problems at bay,” he said.
Porridge and wholemeal cereals were recommended as good breakfast options in order to keep up a good standard of oral health.
Dentists should be charged with asking patients questions about their diet at their check-ups, Dr Carter recently claimed, recommending they discuss sugar intake.
