BDHF calls for extra oral health vigilance at Christmas

The British Dental Health Federation has highlighted the importance of looking after teeth and gums over the festive period.
According to the body, the mouth can come under attack twice a day at Christmas due to the fact people eat and drink more than usual.
This means extra vigilance is required in order to maintain oral health standards, chief executive of the organisation Dr Nigel Carter said.
He added: “Your teeth are under attack for up to one hour after eating or drinking and if you think about how much is consumed … your teeth don’t really get the chance to recover.”
Dr Carter also pointed out the importance of brushing teeth before going to bed, as this will remove acid forming plaque before sleep.
Joey Essex – one of the stars of reality TV show The Only Way Is Essex – recently told Now magazine he is going to have his teeth whitened so they are looking great for Christmas.
