The new chair of the British Dental Association’s (BDA) Principal Executive Committee (PEC) has been named as Dr Martin Fallowfield.
Members of the PEC picked Dr Fallowfield for the role and he will be the principal elected representative officer of the BDA as a result.
His work at the BDA includes projects such as the development of the body’s Good Practice Scheme, as well as planning the British Dental Conference and Exhibition.
Dr Fallowfield stated it is an honour to have been named the chair of the PEC, adding: “This is a pivotal time for the BDA and the profession it represents. There are many challenges to be confronted.”
He noted the dental industry is going to have to be “flexible” over the course of the coming years.
The BDA recently told dentists across the country that they need to resist the “bullying” tactics of Primary Care Trust dental commissioning staff, who have been accused of challenging acceptable treatment patterns in an attempt to claw back money.
